The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is actively hiring a full-time Victim Advocate for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to join our team in The Violence Intervention and Prevention Department in Perry County. This position provides direct support, crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, accompaniments, and advocacy to survivors.
This position works closely with survivors and non-offending family members to provide supportive services and guide them through available resources, connect them to legal and medical service, and empower them to make informed decisions.
Position Details:
- Location: Perry County Office, New Bloomfield
- Hours: 37.5 hour work week; Monday - Friday 8am-4pm
- Salary: $20/hr
Successful Candidates Will Have:
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Conduct safety planning and assess the needs of survivors to develop a personalized support plan.
- Accompany survivors to medical, legal, and court appointments, offering emotional support and advocacy
- Advocate on behalf of survivors with law enforcement, legal systems, healthcare providers, and other service agencies.
- Facilitate individual counseling sessions and support groups to empower survivors
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and services provided
- Participate in outreach to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault in the Perry County Community
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including law enforcement, legal professionals, and other community organizations
- Knowledge of Perry County resources and services a MUST
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field or Associate’s Degree with 2 years relevant work experience)
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred
- Strong crisis intervention skills and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and a survivor-centered approach
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Flexibility to work on-call shifts as required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client management systems
- Valid driver's license, clean driving history and reliable personal vehicle. Proof of insurability may also be required.
- Current FBI, criminal and child abuse clearances or the ability to obtain required.
