The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking passionate and dedicated full-time Employment Specialist for Veterans to join our team. 

In this rewarding role, you will provide outreach and employment services with supportive case management to homeless veterans living in shelters, in transitional housing, in supported housing, and in the community. This position is responsible for ensuring that clients receive job preparation, placement, retention, and connection with veterans and social service benefits.

Position Details: 
  • Hours: 37.5 hour work week; Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; with a rotational on-call schedule.
  • Salary: $20/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct outreach and build trusting relationships with homeless and at-risk Veterans in shelters, community settings, and other locations.
  • Provide individualized employment counseling, career planning, job readiness, and ongoing employment support.
  • Connect Veterans with employment, education, housing, transportation, healthcare, benefits, and other supportive services.
  • Develop individualized service and employment goals and provide ongoing case management and follow-up.
  • Build partnerships with employers, VA and Veterans’ organizations, workforce agencies, and community service providers to strengthen resources and opportunities for clients.
  • Participate in community outreach events, including Stand Downs and other Veteran-focused events.
  • Assist clients with budgeting, financial goal-setting, and long-term stability.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and complete required documentation and grant reports.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and other organizational activities as assigned.

Position Requirements: 
  • Preferred degree in Human Services fields of study including but not limited to, Mental Health or Addictions, Social Work, Psychology, or in a Business field of study, including to but not limited to, Human Resource Management, Business, or Management. 
  • At least two years’ experience in interviewing, assessing, and hiring individuals.  As well as experience with drug and alcohol or mental health services. 
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving history, and reliable personal vehicle. Proof of insurability may also be required.
  • Current FBI, criminal, and child abuse clearance or the ability and willingness to obtain.
