The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking a full-time Family & Crisis Advocate Support Specialist to assist in delivering vital services to individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence. This position supports the work of the existing Family & Crisis Advocate and provides services at both UPMC’s Children’s Advocacy Center and the YWCA’s main location.

At UPMC’s Children’s Advocacy Center, the Support Specialist assists with crisis intervention, supportive counseling, safety planning, and connecting child victims of abuse and their families to on-site and community-based services. This role contributes to a long-standing, collaborative partnership between the YWCA and UPMC aimed at reducing the trauma and long-term effects of abuse.

At the YWCA’s main location, the Support Specialist helps provide backup coverage for the 24-hour hotline, supports shelter operations, assists with medical and legal accompaniments, and provides advocacy and assistance with emergency protection orders as needed.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to build experience in victim services, trauma-informed care, and multidisciplinary collaboration while playing a key role in supporting the YWCA’s mission of safety and empowerment.

Position Details: 
  • Hours: 37.5 hour work week; Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; some on-call as needed.
  • Rate: $20.51 per hour

  • Proven ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and adhering to program policies.
  • Strong self-motivation with a consistent track record of meeting goals and objectives.
  • Calm and adaptable in high-pressure or crisis situations, with strong crisis intervention and/or counseling experience.
  • Experience and willingness to work with children and families impacted by trauma.
  • Knowledge of victim advocacy, trauma, and trauma-informed care practices.
  • Familiarity with community resources, legal systems, and law enforcement processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven de-escalation and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities daily.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to learn new case management software and systems.
Position Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field with prior related work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving history, and reliable personal vehicle. Proof of insurability may also be required.
  • Current FBI, criminal, and child abuse clearance or the ability and willingness to obtain.
